The actual wording of the petition, as it will be presented to City Councilpersons and to the board of the Audubon Institute, is shown below.

Petition

In light of the following facts, we [the undersigned] petition the Audubon Institute for a moratorium on the current golf course construction until public hearings on the design and impact are held.

  1. Most current users of the golf course oppose the plan.
  2. The new golf course appropriates a large amount of current open green space.
  3. Non-golfers oppose the elimination of the public footpath across the park (Hurst Walk) and the closing of the lagoon bridge.
  4. Trees will be cut and others damaged by the construction of a new clubhouse, maintenance facilities and paved cart paths in what is currently open woodlands.
  5. The construction of four new lagoons on the course will endanger park waterfowl.
Notes
We maintain that the Audubon Institute has not taken proper care to consult with local residents. To demonstrate this we are collecting signatures for a petition to halt the reconstruction at least until proper public consultations have been made.

The purpose of the petition is not necessarily to stop the redevelopment, but rather to force the city council to take action and to demand public hearings on this plan.

The work is already underway, but that doesnt mean it is too late. In fact there could not be a better time.

If we want to keep the Park for the benefit of the public and resist the Audubon Institutes costly and hostile plan, we have to do something now
