One of Mr Ronald Forman's chief lines of argument is that he is puzzled why so many people are protesting his plan now, but did not protest back in 1999 when the A.N.I held a 'public meeting'
According to the Institute, signs were posted in the park and golf clubhouse and a public notice was run in the paper.
The text of the 1.25"x1.25" notice that appeared in the classified section of the Times-Picayune on May 5, 10 and 12, 1999 was as follows:
"PUBLIC NOTICE
The Audubon Commission and the Audubon Institute are planning to renovate the existing Audubon Park Golf Course and are seeking public input on the renovation. A public meeting will be held to solicit comments on renovation options, on Monday, May 24th at 7:00 pm in the education building at Audubon Zoo. Interested parties are invited to
attend. Anyone having questions about the project or seeking additional
information should call Robert W. Becker of the Audubon Park staff at 861-5115."
Sounds fair enough? But if you consider the size of the notice (reproduced in its actual size on this page), and that it was buried in the Classified section of the newspaper you have to ask:
Were they serious?
